Canucks rumors: Vancouver targeting ex-Olympian from Bruins in front office role

The Vancouver Canucks’ front office overhaul has been one of the hottest stories outside of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, as the mess ended with Henrik and Daniel Sedin taking co-president roles, with Ryan Johnson moving in as general manager. Initial rumors suggested that the Boston Bruins’ front office would be the source of the Canucks’ answers, as Evan Gold, Jamie Langenbrunner, and Jeremy Rogalski would make their way to Vancouver.

Gold’s negotiations to be the next general manager fell through, leading people to assume the Bruins’ front office wouldn’t be touched during this hiring cycle. However, Langenbrunner may not have been as connected to Gold as we thought, according to Joe Haggerty via X, formerly Twitter.

“Jamie Langenbrunner is leaving the Bruins front office after being rumored to be headed to Vancouver: ‘The Boston Bruins have agreed to allow Jamie Langenbrunner to pursue other opportunities in the NHL. The organization wishes Jamie and his family all the best moving forward,” Haggerty reported.

Langenbrunner was the assistant general manager in Boston for the last four seasons, taking over Gold’s role after Gold became the general manager of the Providence Bruins. Langenbrunner had an 18-year NHL career, which included stops with three teams and two Olympic appearances for his country. He won a silver medal with Team USA in 2010.

It is still unclear whether Langenbrunner had a job on the table in Vancouver after Gold’s negotiations fell through. However, the announcement from the Bruins would lead everyone to believe that he has some kind of opportunity on the table.
