Another sweep puts Red Sox in incredible MLB history amid blazing hot streak

It was only on the 24th of June this year when the Boston Red Sox hit rock bottom. Following a loss to the Colorado Rockies, one of the worst teams in the big leagues, the Red Sox fell to 14 games below .500 for the second time this season, at 32-46. But since then, Boston has caught on fire. They have gone 30-5 since then, and on Thursday, they completed another series sweep — this time against the AL Central-leading Chicago White Sox.

Their win on Thursday was quite the barnburner. They came back from multiple deficits before Caleb Durbin won them the game, 12-11, with a walk-off single in the 13th. And in sweeping the White Sox, the Red Sox made history by being just the first team since the start of the Expansion Era in 1961 to sweep six first-place teams in a single season, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

Their performances as of late have been unbelievable, and they’ve closed the gap between them and their sworn rival New York Yankees to a single game. They are still five games back of the Tampa Bay Rays for the AL East lead, but they have cemented themselves as a legitimate Wild Card team with this blazing run of theirs.

They have also swept the Yankees and Rays this season (both four game sweeps), and they also recently dominated the reigning World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers in a three-game set on the road. The Red Sox simply cannot be stopped at the moment.

The concern, of course, is that they may be peaking too early. They may have expended a ton of energy to rescue their season, leaving them running on fumes towards the end of the season. But the Red Sox are simply enjoying the ride as they keep on getting plenty of contributions from everyone on their 26-man roster.
