Tyrese Maxey makes surprising admission on recruiting LeBron James to 76ers

Tyrese Maxey was instrumental in convincing LeBron James to join the Philadelphia 76ers in free agency. Maxey and James have been working out together since last summer, developing a strong bond.

James has publicly praised Maxey even before they became teammates. It was only logical for the 25-year-old guard to help in recruiting the 41-year-old forward. It is easy to imagine Maxey repeatedly calling James and pitching to him the value of signing with the 76ers.

The spitfire playmaker, however, shared that it was actually not the case.

“Not many (calls and messages). It wasn’t a lot of convincing. It’s a couple of phone calls, a couple of texts,” said Maxey in the video posted by NBC Sports Philadelphia’s John Clark.

“Now I guess we’re friends. He’s a lot older than me, but I guess we’re friends.”

Maxey and James are handled by Klutch Sports.

James said he still wants to compete for a championship, and he felt that Philadelphia could give him the best chance of getting a fifth ring, teaming up with Maxey, Joel Embiid,  Jaylen Brown, and VJ Edgecombe.

“I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team, and I am so excited to energize a new fan base and start this incredible journey one last time,” said the four-time Finals MVP in a statement.

His growing relationship with Maxey should be beneficial to the Sixers, who are looking to win the title for the first time since 1983—and possibly go skydiving, based on Brown’s plan.

“Those guys are really good. I think this season will be really great,” added Maxey.
