Wolves vs Port Vale prediction

Wolves will of course be the favourites for this EFL Cup clash as the Championship side were only just relegated into the second tier from the Premier League.

Port Vale on the other hand, were relegated from League One and now have to play in the fourth tier.

The first round of the EFL Cup almost acts as a secondary pre-season for teams figuring out the way their squad can lineup and how new players can slot into the team.

There’s likely going to be a fairly strong squad put out by both sides, but will that new-look Wolves side post-relegation be in cohesion enough to beat the relegated Port Vale? Probably.

Port Vale to struggle

Wolves haven’t seen that many big departures which is not great news for Championship sides this season, nor Port Vale in this EFL Cup clash.

Joao Gomes departed for a nice sum which meant they need a big replacement in central midfield or rely on a slight reshuffle.

Raul Jimenez who featured for Mexico in the World Cup, who has plenty of experience in England for Wolves and Fulham has returned on a free transfer, along with Kieran Trippier.

They also signed Rafiki Said and Ladislav Krejci for a combined roughly £15million.

They look to have a strong experienced squad and should start this season off strongly.

Wolves pre-season

Wolves saw four club friendlies in pre-season, losing just once by a minor margin 2-1 to Real Sociedad, but they beat Maidenhead, Doncaster and Racing Santander.

The last two games ended 2-0 and 3-0 respectively, and there’s a suspicion this game could end in similar fashion.

This game could be a good prep game ahead of their first game back in the Championship next Friday against Blackburn Rovers.
