Alex Caruso reveals honest outlook on ‘marriage’ with Thunder after WCF exit

Veteran guard Alex Caruso reflected on his first two seasons with the Oklahoma City Thunder as he enters the offseason following a Game 7 loss in the Western Conference Finals to the San Antonio Spurs. After Shai Gilgeous-Alexander discussed failing to win Game 7 and the disappointment that comes with it, during the Thunder’s exit interviews on Saturday.

Then, Caruso opened up about how happy he is to be with the Thunder, and how the A-class organization makes work easier for OKC’s passionate fanbase.

“I signed the contract, so obviously, I’m looking forward to being here for a handful of years. I think the marriage has been great between me and the Thunder organization,” Caruso said. “Thankful to say, offering me the extension and trusting me enough to be here for those handful of years. We’ll see what the future holds when that’s done. But I’ve enjoyed my first two years here. It’s been great. The people here, the city, the organization, they’re all very high-class people.”

Thunder’s Alex Caruso will enter the third year of his four-year, $81 million contract next season.

Thunder All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander failed to reach his goal to repeat as champions. After leading the Thunder to its first championship in franchise history last season, Gilgeous-Alexander nearly led his team to a second consecutive appearance, and reflected on how he hopes to learn from Game 7’s 111-103 loss to the Spurs.

“It was a failure. I failed at my goal. I didn’t achieve what I wanted to achieve,” Gilgeous-Alexander said. “But through those experiences, I learn the most about myself and make the greatest amount of increases in my career when I fail.”

Gilgeous-Alexander finished with 35 points on 12-for-21 shooting, including 2-for-5 from deep, and 9-for-11 from the free-throw line. He also finished with nine assists and three steals.
