When will Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli play for India next?
India's ODI calendar is set to stay busy through the rest of 2026 and into early 2027, with a home series against West Indies headlining the immediate schedule. The big question for fans is whether Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be part of the action after a mixed run in England.
India's most recent ODI assignment was a three-match series in England, which the hosts won 2-1. The series decider was played at Lord's on July 19, 2026, and it was England's first series win against India since 2018, only their eighth in 22 attempts overall. Shubman Gill captained India for the ODI leg of that tour.
Rohit Sharma endured a difficult start to the England series, scoring just 11 and 26 in the first two matches. He more than made up for it in the third ODI at Lord's, however, striking 138 off 110 balls. That knock was his 34th ODI century and came in a losing cause as England posted 387 for 3, the highest List A total at Lord's, to win by 27 runs.
Rohit finished the three-match series with 175 runs in total. His record in England across all ODIs is also notable, across 27 appearances in the country, he has accumulated 1,428 runs, the most by any overseas player in England's ODI history. Rohit is mostly expected to return for the home series against West Indies, which begins on September 27, 2026, in Thiruvananthapuram, though his selection has not been officially confirmed.
Virat Kohli showed signs of returning to his best form during the England series, particularly in the latter matches. He finished the three-match assignment with 144 runs at an average of 48 and a strike rate of 101.71, with two half-centuries and no century. His 74 in the third ODI at Lord's was his 133rd score of fifty or more in ODI cricket.
Kohli sits second among overseas batters in England's ODI history with 1,349 runs on English soil. Like Rohit, he is mostly expected to feature in the upcoming West Indies home series, though official squad confirmation is still awaited. India's ODI schedule beyond West Indies includes a five-match series in New Zealand, followed by three ODIs against Sri Lanka in December 2026 and three ODIs against Zimbabwe in January, giving both veterans several more opportunities ahead.
