Abdul Carter leaves Giants’ mandatory minicamp early with apparent foot injury
Mandatory minicamp is underway for the New York Giants, as new head coach John Harbaugh continues to prepare his team for the upcoming 2026-27 season. However, the defense received some unfortunate news on Monday, as Abdul Carter was forced to leave practice early due to an apparent foot injury.
Reports indicate that the 22-year-old edge rusher was being examined by team doctors after being spotted limping toward the sidelines, according to Pat Leonard of NYDN Sports. Carter was eventually taken indoors for further evaluation while his teammates resumed practice.
“Development: Giants edge Abdul Carter had his entire left shoe and sock off, and he’s being examined by trainers,” reported Leonard. “He is limping VERY gingerly off to the side. I didn’t see it happen, but Carter got banged up during this practice. He just limped into the indoor field as practice continues outside.”
Carter did not return to mandatory minicamp with the Giants on Monday, per Jordan Raanan of ESPN. However, the franchise is optimistic about the foot injury, as the early belief is that the situation is not serious.
“Abdul Carter left Monday’s minicamp practice early and did not return,” said Raanan. “The Giants’ initial belief is that he’s OK.”
The Giants will likely conduct further testing before determining Carter’s official status moving forward. Based on the club’s optimism, the former No. 3 overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft may not miss much time at all. But again, his status ultimately awaits an official diagnosis.
This story is currently developing, and more information will be published soon.
