49ers’ Nick Bosa gets injury update after missing practice

The San Francisco 49ers are hoping that defensive end Nick Bosa is going to be a key factor this year and he will give the team a huge lift with his ability to get to the passer. However, after missing all but three games last season after tearing his ACL, he has struggled to stay on the field this summer.

Bosa has not suffered any major setback, but overall soreness has kept him off the field for the 49ers in recent days. Bosa has been an impact player for the 49ers throughout his seven-year career. He has been a Pro Bowl player five times during his career and was the NFL’s defensive player of the year in 2022 when he had a league-best 18.5 sacks and 51 tackles.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan does not expect the soreness will continue for Bosa and turn into a long-term problem. “He was doing great and then he got sore just going through some of the individuals,” Shanahan said. “You wish that didn’t happen. But no, there’s no concern to where something’s happened that is a big setback or anything. But we’ll wait until that soreness goes away and evaluating why the soreness has happened. But I still feel pretty good about that.”

It’s one thing for Bosa to miss time in the early stages of training camp. However, once the preseason schedule gets underway next week, Shanahan and his coaching staff would like to see Bosa back on the practice field and stay there with some consistency. The Niners badly need Bosa to provide an impactful pass rush. Clelin Ferrell and Bryce Huff led the team in sacks last year with 4.0 sacks each.
