Sky’s DiJonai Carrington drops ‘white privilege’ message after hard foul on Sophie Cunningham leads to ejection

The Chicago Sky lost one of their best defenders during their matchup against the Indiana Fever, as DiJonai Carrington was assessed a flagrant foul 2 on Sophie Cunningham in the first quarter. Carrington was also ejected from the game.

Following the ejection, Carrington went on social media and said, “White Privilege.”

Carrington was issued the foul after Cunningham was going for a layup and was hit across the face. Cunningham hit the ground, but instantly got up and got into Carrington’s face, and the Fever guard was held back by her teammates. After the foul was assessed, it looked as if Carrington was quite confused about the call, but then headed to the locker room.

It was evident that Carrington didn’t make a play on the ball, and any action where a player makes contact above the body, the referees are usually going to call a flagrant foul 2.

Carrington was having a strong start to the game as she had eight points in the first quarter, and it was much needed after Natasha Cloud had picked up three early fouls. The Sky are also without Sydney Taylor in this game, as she’s had a strong rookie season for the Sky.

Carrington just returned to the court a few games ago after missing most of the season as she recovered from injury, and her presence has been big for the Sky recently.

Coming into their game against the Fever, the Sky are No. 10 in the standings, and they’ll have to go on a run if they want to make the playoffs.
