Olivia Miles boosts MVP case with latest Lynx accomplishment

The Minnesota Lynx (26-7) reinforced their claim as the best team in the WNBA this season after earning a 98-87 home victory versus the defending champion Las Vegas Aces (22-10) on Saturday afternoon. They become the first squad in the league to clinch a spot in the 2026 playoffs, and as a result, Olivia Miles’ MVP case gets even stronger.

Although it takes a collective effort to hold down first place, what this rookie guard has accomplished over the last three months is truly impressive. While franchise pillar Napheesa Collier recovered from surgery on both ankles, Miles led the Lynx to the top of the standings. Remarkably, she has been even more lethal since No. 24 returned to the lineup.

The No. 2 overall pick scored a game-high 26 points on 11-of-23 shooting to go with seven assists, four rebounds and one steal against the Aces. Despite committing five turnovers, the half-court-shot-making dynamo pushed the pace and stumped Vegas’ defense. Miles’ big performance stands out even more when juxtaposed to that of MVP favorite A’ja Wilson, who posted 16 points on just 5-of-17 shooting while also recording eight boards, one assist, one steal and two blocks. This is turning into quite a race.

Olivia Miles seemingly has little room for error if she is going to topple Wilson, but she just continues to meet the moment in her first WNBA campaign. Minnesota suffered bitter endings to the season in 2024 and 2025, but if this 23-year-old phenom can remain a massive game-changer moving forward, then the team will finally get to hang another championship banner in Target Center.

A title should be all that Miles needs to punctuate her meteoric rise into WNBA superstardom, but the MVP crown might still be in sight.
