49ers’ Kyle Shanahan provides recovery update after car accident
The San Francisco 49ers have had Kyle Shanahan at a limited capacity during training camp as he still recovers from a car accident that occurred in July. Shanahan has still been trying to stay engaged during practice, and there was uncertainty about when he would get back to coaching on the sidelines fully.
It looks like Shanahan plans to coach the team’s first preseason game against the Tennessee Titans, according to David Lombardi of the San Francisco Standard.
“Kyle Shanahan says that he no longer is sensitive to noise. He still has some headaches and fatigue after suffering a concussion in the car accident, but he plans to coach in the 49ers’ preseason opener against Tennessee on Thursday,” Lombardi wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
That’s good news for the 49ers, and that means he’ll definitely be ready for when the regular season begins. When Shanahan first spoke out about the car accident, he cleared up the reports that the other driver was at fault.
“49ers coach Kyle Shanahan just spent some time describing the events of July 14. He wanted to clarify right up front that the accident was his fault. He took eyes off the road briefly to find his phone which fell between seats and when he looked up he had gone over the line and into an SUV. The CHP database had a clerical error attributing accident to the girl. Shanahan says that is not accurate,” ESPN’s Nick Wagoner wrote on X.
Shanahan had still been dealing with the effects after the concussion, and it looks like he’s still coming along in his recovery.
The 49ers are expected to be one of the better teams in the league once again this season, and their success won’t be possible without their head coach on the sidelines.
