49ers get major Mike Evans injury update on Week 1 availability vs. Rams

Wide receiver Mike Evans is easily one of the top players to watch out for in the coming 2026 NFL season over the side of the San Francisco 49ers.

This is the first time that the former Texas A&M Aggies star wideout is suiting up for a different team other than the Tampa Bay Buccaneers since entering the league over a decade ago, so it will be interesting to see what kind of impact he will have on the field for the NFC West franchise.

But first, he will have to be healthy.

That has been a major issue in the offseason and in training camp for 33-year-old Evans, who missed Tuesday’s practice and also left a 49ers joint practice with the Los Angeles Chargers early last week.

Concerns have since grown over whether the veteran will be able to make his 49ers debut in the season opener on Sept. 10 against the Los Angeles Rams.

However, it appears that the six-time Pro Bowler will be ready just in time for that matchup against San Francisco’s division rivals.

“49ers wide receiver Mike Evans plans to play Week 1 despite dealing with injuries this camp, per source. His latest, a groin issue, is considered minor barring a change,” Jeremy Fowler of ESPN shared via a social media post on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday.

For now, the 49ers do not have to rush Evans into action, with weeks left before the Rams game, though, it should be noted that San Francisco will fly to Australia next week.

Signed by the 49ers to a three-year, $42.4 million contract in March, Evans played in only eight games in 2025 and racked up 368 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 30 receptions and 62 targets.
