Astros share huge Carlos Correa injury return update

It’s been a while since Houston Astros fans saw Carlos Correa take the field. He suffered an injury back in May that has kept him sidelined for nearly four months. However, there is a chance the veteran infielder is back on the field sometime soon.

Astros manager Joe Espada was asked about Correa’s injury status on Wednesday. He expressed optimism about his progress in rehabbing the injury. In fact, he went so far as to say that he could return next month if things continue on this track.

“Carlos Correa’s attempt at a comeback is progressing so seamlessly that Houston Astros manager Joe Espada said on Wednesday he expects Correa ‘to be ready to go at some point in September,'” The Athletic’s Chandler Rome reported on Wednesday.

Correa was initially thought to be lost for the entire 2026 season. He underwent surgery in May shortly after tearing peroneus brevis tendon in his left ankle. However, the veteran infielder has made a heroic attempt to stage a comeback late in this season.

His comeback attempt couldn’t come at a better time, either. The Astros are fighting tooth and nail for a playoff spot this October. They are in a tense battle with the Texas Rangers for first place in the American League West. The teams are separated by just half a game. The Seattle Mariners are also in the conversation, sitting three games back of Houston for first place.

The Astros could use all the help they can get down the stretch. Houston is treading water well enough, but they will eventually need to create some separation. Perhaps Correa’s return is the spark they need to truly establish themselves as the best in the AL West.
