Kylian Mbappe records hat trick for Real Madrid vs. Real Sociedad

Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe scored a hat trick to lead Los Blancos to a 4-1 win over Real Sociedad at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday, giving new manager Jose Mourinho two victories from his first two matches back in charge of the Spanish club.

Mbappe, who had not scored in Madrid’s 2-1 win over Espanyol last weekend, opened his account for the season five minutes before halftime. Federico Valverde supplied the pass, with the French forward evading his marker before curling a beautiful left-footed finish into the top corner. However, Real Sociedad responded just three minutes later, with Luka Sucic restoring parity before the interval after Job Ochieng’s lackluster effort was blocked, leaving the rebound at his feet.

Real Madrid regained control after the break. Jude Bellingham, who provided two assists, combined with Valverde before setting up Mbappe for his second goal. The striker then completed his hat trick in the 80th minute after Vinicius Junior supplied a perfectly weighted pass, with Mbappe lifting the ball over goalkeeper Alex Remiro.

Mbappe’s three goals came in the 40th, 60th and 80th minutes, producing an unusual pattern of one goal every 20 minutes.

Vinicius also found the net as Madrid added a third goal before Mbappe completed his treble. A determined Bellingham won the ball back inside Real Sociedad’s penalty area after his initial effort was blocked, before calmly teeing up Vinícius for a simple tap-in.

The result moved Real Madrid to two wins from two under Mourinho, whose return to the Bernabeu had been closely watched. His previous spell as Madrid coach lasted from 2010 to 2013.

The hat trick added to Mbappe’s impressive LaLiga scoring record. He finished as the league’s top scorer with 31 goals during his debut campaign in Spain and followed that with 25 goals last season. He also entered the match as the 2026 World Cup’s leading scorer after recording 10 goals in the tournament, including a hat trick in the third-place match.

Up next, Madrid will face Malaga on Sunday at the Bernabeu.
