Brewers’ Dustin May exits vs. Mets after injury scare on 1st pitch of game

The Milwaukee Brewers and New York Mets are playing a game on Wednesday night. However, an injury scare surfaced after just one pitch, as a line drive off Mets outfielder AJ Ewing’s bat that was recorded at 106 MPH hit the throwing shoulder of Brewers starter Dustin May. Milwaukee somehow recorded an out on the play, as the ball bounced to the third baseman who threw Ewing out at first. However, all of the focus immediately shifted to May after the out was recorded.

Dustin May took a 106 mph line drive off the bat of A.J Ewing on the first pitch of the game to the shoulder. He seemed to be in severe discomfort and was removed from the game after throwing warmup pitches.

May was clearly in pain and he ultimately left the game after some warm-up pitches. Robert Gasser entered the contest to replace the Brewers starter. Milwaukee will need its bullpen to step up after May’s early exit due to injury.

May was acquired by the Brewers from the St. Louis Cardinals before this season’s trade deadline. The Brewers believe he can play a crucial role for them down the stretch of the season. Now, Milwaukee is simply hoping May avoided a serious injury.

The right-handed hurler holds a 4.57 ERA across 24 total starts this season between the Cardinals and the Brewers, three of which have come with Milwaukee (Wednesday was his fourth start with the Brewers). He entered the contest on Wednesday having surrendered 10 earned runs across 15 innings of work with Milwaukee.
