Kyle Schwarber bashes 40th home run for 2nd-straight season

The Philadelphia Phillies wouldn’t be Wild Card contenders without Kyle Schwarber in part. He’s been on a roll lately and at the right time. Schwarber is fresh off hitting a walk-off homer against the St. Louis Cardinals.

That power surged Wednesday on the road against the Seattle Mariners. In the 3rd inning, Schwarber launched a rocket to right field to add three runs on the board. Along the way, he hit his 40th home run of the year and his second consecutive season.

It also marks the fourth time in his career that he has hit 40 home runs in a season.

Schwarber came into the game hitting 39 home runs and had 78 RBIs along with batting .241. Meanwhile, the Phillies came in with a 73-60 record, but had lost the first two games of the three-game series to Seattle.

The Phillies are trailing the Chicago Cubs by 2.5 games in the National League Wild Card standings. Schwarber is looking to exceed his previous year’s stats, which is without a question a tall order. He finished 2025 with a batting average of .240, 145 hits, 56 home runs, and 132 RBIs. In the process, the Phillies won the National League East Division with a record of 96-66.

Ultimately, they lost to the eventual champion Los Angeles Dodgers in four games in the NLDS.

Schwarber’s other 40 home run seasons came in 2022, 2023, and 2025. In 2022, he hit 46 home runs, and in 2023, he hit 47.

The Phillies defeated the Mariners 6-0. On Friday, Philadelphia will head to Los Angeles to play the Angels in a three-game series.
