Blake Griffin announces new late night talk show
After a breakout season as an NBA on Prime member, Blake Griffin is looking to expand his media career even further. For an exclusive report by The Hollywood Reporter, Griffin is partnering with Prime Video, Wonderly, and YouTube for a brand-new sports-based talk show entitled The Step Back with Blake Griffin.
The Hollywood Reporter’s description of the show details an ambitious project that aligns it with other popular late-night vehicles.
” it features the host sitting behind a desk chronicling and opining on the juiciest sports topics of our time — think John Oliver, but for all things athletic,” the article reads.
Griffin is going to take on the litany of topics, including NIL, gambling, and “the state of sports journalism.” The Hollywood Reporter obtained a snippet of the upcoming press release describing the show.
“Drawing on his unique lens as a veteran player, sports dad, and lifelong superfan, Griffin breaks down the biggest topics in sports for a live studio audience — delivering a smart blend of late-night comedy and cultural analysis.”
In a quote obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, Griffin said his inspiration for the show came from recognizable variety talk shows in the TV landscape.
“I’ve watched and idolized shows like The Daily Show and Last Week Tonight, so to follow in their footsteps while putting my own stamp on the genre is an amazing opportunity that I’m grateful to take part in,” he notes.
The show is set to debut on October 20th, coinciding with the start of the NBA season, with new episodes releasing every Tuesday.
