Promising Clippers guard gets brutal injury update right after Bennedict Mathurin leaves for Pelicans

The LA Clippers are undergoing a changing of the guard in Los Angeles after watching Kawhi Leonard, James Harden, Ivica Zubac depart the franchise in a six month span this calendar year. Unfortunately things aren’t off to a great start as they’ll be entering the season without fourth year guard Jordan Miller.

Miller underwent surgery on Wednesday to repair a torn rotator cuff in his left shoulder, the Clippers announced. The injury was sustained during an offseason workout last week and he’ll be re-evaluated in six months.

Six months from now would effectively rule him out of playing with the Clippers until February 2026. And the six-month timeline isn’t necessarily the return-to-play date, but rather the re-evaluation date. Miller could be looking at even longer absence.

The news of the surgery comes just hours after reports surfaced of Bennedict Mathurin agreeing to a two-year, $16 million contract with the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Clippers have made swift changes to their roster, seeing guys like Kawhi Leonard, James Harden, Ivica Zubac, John Collins, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Nicolas Batum, and Mathurin depart while bringing in guys like Darius Garland, Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, Rui Hachimura, Max Strus, and Keaton Wagler via the fifth overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.

Jordan Miller was expected to play a significant role for the Clippers this season as a ball-handler, playmaker, and scorer, but that will unfortunately be shelved until he can return from his torn rotator cuff injury.

In 60 appearances for the Clippers this season, Miller averaged 10 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 0.8 steals while shooting 53.1 percent from the field.
