York Ebor Festival day 3 tips (August 21, 2026)
Another brilliant days racing ahead with the speedsters taking centre stage in the Nunthorpe. It looks an open renewal so plenty of value on offer!
The Lonsdale Cup also looks a good race where Caballo De Mar will likely prove tough to beat if back to his best. I know George Scott is really looking forward to running him and the rain would have to be a big plus to his chances too.

York 1.50 Sky Bet Mile Handicap (Heritage Handicap) (Class 2) (3YO only) 7f192y
Plenty in with chances in the opener but ZENNOR STORM definitely catches the eye under Tom Marquand. He should love this softer ground and he was just given too much to do the last day. He should build on that and if getting a better trip should go close.
Eklleem is unexposed and could take a big step forward so looks the danger. Blue Courvoisier ran well last time and is capable of building on that so could be another one that gets involved.
Bet on ZENNOR STORM each way at 5/1 with bet365
York 2.25 Weatherbys Lonsdale Cup Stakes (Group 2) (Class 1) (3YO plus) 2m56y
Hard to see how CABALLO DE MAR doesn’t go close. He relishes softer ground so the recent rain has been a blessing. He impressed winning in France on penultimate start before blowing out at the top level last time. I spoke to trainer George Scott earlier in the week and he can’t wait to run this horse which tells you a lot.
Amiloc should bounce back and looks the most obvious danger on his best form. Carmers is also capable of running a big race but things will need to drop right.
Bet on CABALLO DE MAR to win at 5/2 with Betfred
York 3.00 Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Gimcrack Stakes (Group 2) (Class 1) (2YO only) 6f
I’m sticking with the unbeaten ARAPAHO GOLD here. He is a perfect 3-3 and impressed at Newbury showing a good attitude to prevail. I get the impression there is a fair bit more to come and if he pulls out more here against these could extend the winning sequence.
Adaay Of Scarlett has been running to a very consistent level and looks sure to run his race and probably challenge most. Marco Polo is another one I can see stepping forward so don’t discount either.
Bet on ARAPAHO GOLD to win at 3/1 with BoyleSports
York 3.35 Coolmore City Of Troy Nunthorpe Stakes (Group 1) (Class 1) (2YO plus) 5f
At a double-figure price MISSION CENTRAL looks worth chancing here. This son of No Nay Never failed to give his running at Newmarket but had been thriving prior to that blip and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him bounce back at a nice price. He has actually won six of his last nine so has a decent strike rate.
Bacio comes over from America but this recent rain would be a bit of a concern. American Affair arrives at the top of his game but this is obviously a big ask so while he can run well I think he might be vuleranble from a win perspective.
Bet on MISSION CENTRAL each way at 10/1 with Ladbrokes
York 4.10 Assured Data Protection Handicap (Heritage Handicap) (GBBPlus Race) (Class 2) (3YO plus) 1m3f188y
I’m keen on FRENCH DUKE here as he looks great value in the market. He wasn’t given a hard time of things when held at Southwell and back on turf with his mark easing he could be capable of a bold display. He is still relatively lightly raced and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him pop up again.
Sportingsilvermine is likeable and was right back to form when second at Ascot last time so looks a big player coming into this. Primo Lara is bang in form and is another one who should get seriously competitive.
Bet on FRENCH DUKE each way at 7/1 with William Hill
York 4.45 British Stallion Studs EBF Convivial Maiden Stakes (GBB Race) (Class 2) (2YO only) 7f
The way Lancaster Tower travelled into it on debut before inexperience got the better of him was eye-catching but even so OKLAHOMA looks like he’ll take a lot of beating here.
He is bred to be useful and ran better than the bare result at Killarney last time. He just did too much early on and if ridden a bit more conservatively could take a step forward.
Launch Sequence represents Wathnan Racing and still has the potential to be a nice prospect. At a bigger price Benjamin Hornigold could have a lot more to come under Colin Keane and is another one to note.
Bet on OKLAHOMA to win at 9/4 with Coral
York 5.20 Sky Bet EBF Fillies’ Handicap (GBBPlus Race) (Class 2) (3YO plus) 1m2f56y
I have been with SILVER LAKE the last twice and I’m not about to abandon her now. Things have clicked with this Night Of Thunder filly and she looks firmly on the upgrade. If she improves again she should have a great chance to complete the hat-trick.
Lady Dora Mae hasn’t been doing much wrong lately and could be capable of getting involved. Naga is quite a big price if bringing her best form and is another one who must enter calculations.
Bet on SILVER LAKE to win at 3/1 with Paddy Power
My top tip for day 3 of York Ebor Festival
I was at York on Wednesday and luckily got to talk to George Scott and he can’t wait to run CABALLO DE MAR especially now the rain has come. He should have a great chance and I expect him to be well backed come post time.
I have doubled him with ARAPAHO GOLD who can remain unbeaten in the Gimcrack and continue his race-by-race progression.
Bet a Win Double on CABALLO DE MAR and ARAPAHO GOLD at 12/1 with bet365
