Patriots’ A.J. Brown torches Quinyon Mitchell multiple times, but Eagles finally gets him back
At New England Patriots-Philadelphia Eagles joint practices, AJ Brown has had an opportunity to show off against his old team. Both sides have been trying to get the best of one another during Tuesday’s session.
Brown threw the first punch, as his first three targets resulted in a DPI, catch and contested touchdown, via Zack Cox of the Boston Herald. But on his fifth target, quarterback Drake Maye was intercepted by Riq Woolen for a pick six. Maye’s second interception of the day came after the ball slipped out of Brown’s hands and landed in cornerback Jalyx Hunt’s hands, via Mark Daniels of MassLive.
The wide receiver’s DPI and contested touchdown came against Quinyon Mitchell, while his catch was against Woolen. The fact Woolen came down with a pick six later in practice shows how evenly matched both sides are. With their sights set on a Super Bowl, it’d be a major negative if one team completely dominated the other one.
When it comes to Brown, he is looking to put on a show after leaving the Eagles. Despite all their animosity though, the receiver still caught 78 passes for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns. If he were playing for the Patriots, Brown would’ve tied for the team lead in receiving touchdowns and ranked second in receptions and yardage.
Through training camp, Brown will continue to develop his chemistry with Maye. By the end of the season, whether they’re facing the Eagles or any competitor, the Patriots expect their new receiver to bring a dynamic force to the passing attack.
