Vladimir Guerrero Jr. gets injury update amid Blue Jay’s playoff push

It was less than a week ago when Vladimir Guerrero Jr. sustained a concussion, causing him to go on the injured list. As the Blue Jays’ playoff push continues, the team has provided an update on Guerrero’s injury and when he could possibly return to the ballclub, according to MLB.com.

“Suffered concussion after taking a knee to the head from George Lombard Jr. on an awkward collision at third base on Aug. 14. Went through a full pregame workout at Tropicana Field on Aug. 19, which included running on the field, fielding ground balls and hitting in the batting cage. Could play in rehab game on Aug. 20 if all goes well,” MLB.com wrote on their injury update page.

Guerrero has struggled mightily at times this season. Regardless, the Jays still need him and will happily welcome him back. After the Blue Jays suffered a heartbreaking loss in the World Series, they have struggled to contend this season. Currently, they trail the Minnesota Twins by one game for the final wildcard spot in the AL. Despite their plethora of injuries, the Jays are still in it.

Guerrero is hitting .263 with seven home runs, 46 RBIs, and 61 runs. Significantly, that is down from last season, when he hit .292 with 23 home runs, 84 RBIs, and 96 runs. When Guerrero returns, they hope they can get the guy who got hot last season and nearly delivered them a World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. If the Blue Jays can get hot, they can certainly make a run and find themselves back in the title hunt.
