Yankees must make 2 trades to reach World Series, and 1 includes Jazz Chisholm Jr.

The New York Yankees were swept by the Boston Red Sox over the weekend. New York is now in second place in the American League East standings, as they trail the Tampa Bay Rays by one game. Yankees manager Aaron Boone believes the Yankees will be alright, but it is becoming clear that the ball club needs to make a couple of moves before the MLB trade deadline. Today, I am going to lay out a plan to turn the Yankees into a legitimate World Series contender with only two trades.

The Yankees’ offense has performed well so far in 2026. They lead the league in home runs and are third in OPS. Hitting with power is not a problem for the ball club. However, power also is not always consistent. Sometimes you need a guy on the roster who can come up with base hits on a consistent basis.

New York is just 22nd in batting average and 23rd in hits. Meanwhile, infielder Luis Arraez of the San Francisco Giants is expected to be made available for a potential trade. Arraez is currently hitting .324 to go along with 100 hits. He has an .806 OPS as well.

Trading a couple of prospects for Arraez would help to balance the Yankees’ lineup. Of course, Arraez happens to play second base, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. is currently the Yankees second baseman. Chisholm is hitting just .223 with 63 total hits. He offers more power than Arraez, but the Yankees already feature more than enough home run prowess on the roster.

New York could trade Chisholm to help out another area of the roster while bringing in Arraez to play second base. The Yankees are rumored to be interested in acquiring bullpen or catching help. The pitching has been quite good, but adding a star reliever would not hurt matters. New York could package Chisholm and a prospect or two in a trade for an impactful reliever or a good catcher.

If the Yankees make these trades, their MLB roster will only benefit. Chisholm is an All-Star caliber player but Arraez’s skill set would impact the Yankees more given their current needs. Meanwhile, moving on from Chisholm and addressing other areas of need on the roster would only strengthen the ball club overall.
