Yankees’ Giancarlo Stanton could miss rest of season after latest injury update

The New York Yankees have been riddled with injuries this season. New York got even more bad news Saturday on that injury front, as veteran slugger Giancarlo Stanton is getting a rough update.

“Giancarlo Stanton strained his other calf. He fell while running. Moderate grade strain, Aaron Boone said. He may be out for the season,” MLB reporter Bryan Hoch posted on X, formerly Twitter.

Stanton has missed most of the season while dealing with injury problems. He is hitting at a .256 batting average on the campaign, but has only posted 90 at-bats.

“We’re not ruling anything out,” Boone said, per MLB.com, “He’ll obviously continue to work to try to get it right and hopefully be available. But obviously we’re at a point in the calendar where it gets challenging, but you also never know.”

This is very tough news for a Yankees club trying to get healthier. There are multiple Yankees players dealing with injuries, including Aaron Judge and Max Fried. It was hoped Stanton could be back as the Bronx Bombers look to reach the Major League Baseball Playoffs once again.

“Obviously I’m bummed for him,” Boone said. “He’s been working his tail off every day here trying to get this thing right. I think you all know how badly he wants to be on that field contributing to a championship, so obviously that’s disappointing. Hopefully we just continue to work to get him right and healthy.”

The Yankees are 73-55 on the season. New York is second in the American League East, but just three games behind the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Bronx Bombers are on a run right now. New York has five wins in a row entering Saturday. The Yankees play the Toronto Blue Jays. New York enters Saturday’s contest with seven wins in the last 10 games.
