William Contreras’ ‘adjustment’ that led to huge performance vs. Dodgers

The Milwaukee Brewers remain strong and vigilant after locking up a 5-1 win over the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday. A major factor was catcher William Contreras, who went 3-for-4, with a home run and three RBIs.

In fact, he made a slight adjustment, to put it loosely, that helped him out immensely, per Rich Rovito of MLB.com. He switched his walk-up song, “El Rey” by Vicente Fernandez, in the first inning and then hit a home run.

“I heard it two days ago, and I really liked it, so I figured it was time to make a little bit of an adjustment,” Contreras said through interpreter Daniel de Mondesert. “We’ll rock with the new one until I stop hitting.”

From there, the Brewers were on a roll. Sal Frelick’s sacrifice fly in the first inning then helped spur additional runs, and soon Milwaukee led 4-0 as they sent ten batters to the plate.

Overall, Contreras expressed pleasure in the team’s continued run of excellence as of late.

“I’m very happy with the way the team has been able to play the past two, three weeks and finding different ways to win ballgames,” Contreras said. “The team is more complete now and playing good ball.”

The Brewers are now 30-18, in first place in the National League Central Division and 3.5 games ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals. Analysts predict they will outdo the 2025 team that won 97 games and the National League Central Division.

The series against the Dodgers will go until Sunday.
