Red Sox’s Willson Contreras blasts 450-foot homer over the Green Monster
The Boston Red Sox welcomed Rafael Devers back to Fenway Park on Friday night. Devers returned with the San Francisco Giants as the two teams began a three-game series. Boston trailed early, but slugger Willson Contreras brought the home crowd to life in the third inning.
The Red Sox were down 1-0 in this contest, but had some life. They had runners on the corners with two outs and Contreras at the plate. The veteran slugger has had a fantastic season to this point. And he added to that with a mammoth home run over the Green Monster in left field.

That home run represented Contreras’s 26th round trip of the season, a new career high. Boston got off to a big 3-1 lead, but the game has become a bit contentious since then. The Red Sox remain in the lead, though, holding a 5-4 advantage in the seventh inning.
Contreras is enjoying potentially the best season of his lengthy career. As mentioned, his 26 home runs are a new career high. Additionally, his .927 OPS entering play on Friday is also a personal best.
The veteran slugger has been a major part of Boston’s push for October baseball. The Red Sox own the second Wild Card spot in the American League. They own a 5.5-game cushion over the Minnesota Twins and Texas Rangers, who are tied for the final Wild Card spot.
Contreras is muscling this team toward postseason baseball. For now, though, they need to focus on the game at hand. The veteran slugger has done his part, and now they just need to close this game out and add victory to the win column.
