Why Rams’ Stetson Bennett ‘felt more comfortable’ in win over Saints
Stetson Bennett seems to have found his place in the NFL while he helps the Los Angeles Rams get through the preseason schedule after their latest matchup against the New Orleans Saints on Saturday evening.
Bennett has been playing in the NFL since 2023, having yet to appear in a regular-season game. Matthew Stafford has controlled the starting job in a full-time manner, while the likes of Jimmy Garoppolo handling backup duties in 2024 and 2025.
Los Angeles tweaked the quarterback room, selecting Ty Simpson in the 2026 draft. Both Simpson and Bennett are vying for the backup quarterback spot behind Stafford, trying to impress in preseason action.
Bennett had a solid performance out on the field, splitting reps with Simpson. The former had bigger stats, completing 19 out of 31 passes for 181 yards while racking up two rushes for nine yards and two touchdowns. Bennett reflected on his performance after the game, noting his comfort this year than how he was in past seasons.
“We did good things on offense,” Bennett said. “I feel more comfortable out there than in years prior. … They’re constantly reminding me, especially in practice in the red zone, that if (a throw) is not there, then take off and run. I had that in my mind on the two scores. It was fun.”
