Kentucky basketball will be getting some help in the forward department this season, as Mark Mitchell has made the decision to commit to the team, according to ESPN’s Jeff Borzello.

“BREAKING: Former Missouri forward Mark Mitchell has committed to Kentucky, his agent Brandon Mitchell of BAM Sports and Entertainment told ESPN. Two-time All-SEC selection averaged 18.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists last season,” Borzello wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Mitchell was recently granted eligibility and the ability to transfer, and it was the Wildcats that he decided to go with. He was key for Missouri in his two seasons with the program and led them in scoring both times. Last season, Mitchell earned All-SEC honors after averaging 18.3 points per game.

There’s no doubt that Mitchell has meant a lot to the program and head coach Dennis Gates went so far as to say he deserved to have his jersey retired.

“There is no player in the SEC that’s more important (to their) team than Mark Mitchell is for Missouri, is for us and our program,” Gates said on Tiger Talk. “He’s a kid that I truly, if I could just retire his jersey Saturday, I would. And I’m saying that from the standpoint of what we’ve been able to do the last two years, win double-digit SEC games, we wouldn’t be able to do that without Mark Mitchell.”

Mitchell will most likely be the starting four for the Wildcats, and they have the makings of a solid team when the season begins.
