The reason Luis Arraez exited Cardinals game early
Luis Arraez helped move Bryce Harper to outfield amid his Philadelphia Phillies arrival. But fans wondered if he needs to move to the MLB Injury list. Arraez left for an unknown reason early against the St. Louis Cardinals Saturday.
The second baseman noticeably exited during the fourth inning, sparking Bryson Stott to move to his spot. Phillies insider for The Athletic Matt Gelb later learned why Arraez wasn’t on the field.
“The Phillies said Arraez has lower body cramps,” Gelb posted on the social media website X, formerly Twitter.
He managed to chip one hit before getting hit with the ailment. Arraez ripped through a 92 miles per hour fastball for the single after facing a one-ball, two-strike count. He took two at-bat attempts in the game.
Arraez endured notable hitting struggles, though. He went hit-less for three straight games before breaking out of the slump on Aug. 15.
But he’s produced a trio of three-hit games following that hitting slide. He chipped three hits in the Aug. 13 contest against the Minnesota Twins won by Philly 7-1. Arraez pulled off a trio of hits five days later against the Miami Marlins. He even pounded three more in Friday’s game against the same Cards team.
So Arraez deals with a brand new setback. But his team didn’t skip a beat at the bat.
Philadelphia piled seven runs through six innings, with Alec Burleson providing the more recent scoring for the Phillies in hitting a single RBI toward right field. Philadelphia led 7-1 following Arraez’s in-game departure.
