The Yankees’ player being optioned to make room for Cody Bellinger on roster
The New York Yankees were defeated 4-3 by the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday. After the game, the Yankees announced that infielder/outfielder Max Schuemann was optioned to Triple-A. According to Jorge Castillo of ESPN, Cody Bellinger will take Schuemann’s spot on the big league roster on Sunday.
Bellinger has been recovering from a hamstring injury. He has worked hard to return, and now Bellinger is expected to join the Yankees once again on Sunday for their series finale against the Blue Jays. With the series currently tied 1-1-, Bellinger will look to help New York earn a big win in his first game back from the injured list.
Schuemann has appeared in 42 games with the Yankees this season. His numbers do not jump off the page — he has hit just .194/.333/.361 — but Schuemann offers defensive versatility. He has helped the Yankees amid all of the team’s injuries.
Bellinger, meanwhile, is an All-Star outfielder who was hitting .259/.350/420 before landing on the IL. Having Bellinger on the field will certainly give the Yankees much needed boost. Not only is Aaron Judge still out with an injury, but it was revealed on Saturday that Giancarlo Stanton could miss the remainder of the season due to a new calf injury.
Injuries have been a concern for this team to say the least. Cody Bellinger’s return will help matters, however.
First pitch for the game on Sunday between the Blue Jays and Yankees on Sunday afternoon is scheduled for 1:35 PM ET as New York looks to win the series.
