Bills release statement after Ed Oliver’s son tragically passes away

Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver has been on the field with a heavy heart, as the team recently announced the passing of his that happened on June 28. The team posted a statement from general manager Brandon Beane on social media, and sources close to Oliver say the player would like privacy and players during this time.

“On behalf of the entire Buffalo Bills organization, we want to publicly express our condolences to Ed Oliver and his family on the devastating loss of his son. It’s an unthinkable tragedy for any parent. We will continue to support Ed and his family as we all grieve this tragic loss,” Beane said in a statement.

Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a life-in-danger call on June 28, as Oliver’s son, whose name was also Ed, was found unresponsive in the home’s swimming pool. He was taken to a Houston hospital and was pronounced dead at 7:18 p.m.

The Bills knew about the incident when it happened, and Oliver was still present with the team participating in training camp. He wasn’t with the team during their preseason opener against the Cleveland Browns, as he’s currently dealing with an injury. Most of the veterans didn’t play in the game, so it was no surprise that he didn’t suit up.

Oliver has been with the Bills since 2019 after being drafted in the first round by the team. He’s been a key contributor to the team’s defense over the years and is expected to make an impact once again this upcoming season.
