Is Ariel Atkins playing tonight? Sparks vs. Sun injury report
The Los Angeles Sparks will be facing the Connecticut Sun, and one of their key player has found themselves on the injury report. Ariel Atkins suffered a head injury in the Sparks’ last game against the Atlanta Dream and only played 16 minutes, finishing with nine points.
The Sun have not been the best team this season, so the Sparks could be fine without Atkins, but it would also be a plus to have their veteran on the floor.
Here is Atkins’ injury status ahead of their game against the Sun.
Ariel Atkins’ injury status vs. Sun
Atkins is listed as probable for the game, and it seems like she’ll be ready to go at tip-off.
It’s been a rough season for the Sparks, as they haven’t been able to find much consistency and are now eliminated from the playoffs. Atkins has been trying to be one of the vocal leaders for the team through their struggles, but she also hasn’t liked the way she’s played this season.
“Truthfully, it’s been hard because I haven’t played the way that I want to play. But I think at the end of the day we all have experience in that locker room,” Atkins said. “Everybody has experience for something, and being one of the older players, I think it’s important to have steady voices in the locker room.”
Atkins is averaging 8.8 points per game, but is shooting 37.1% from the field and 28.9% from the 3-point line. Of course, she wants to play better, but her value is in trying to lead the younger players on the team.
The Sparks will be losing one of their biggest leaders after this season, with Nneka Ogwumike recently announcing her retirement from the league after 15 years.
