Yankees’ Aaron Boone reacts to brutal Giancarlo Stanton injury update
With fans waiting for the injury returns of many New York Yankees stars like Aaron Judge and Cody Bellinger, there’s a chance that it may not happen this season for Giancarlo Stanton. As Stanton’s latest injury update for the Yankees could signal that he will miss the rest of the season, manager Aaron Boone would give a visceral reaction to the news.
Boone said Saturday that Stanton strained his left calf while running the bases this past week, as he was in the process of returning from a right calf strain. Now, Stanton’s season is in jeopardy, as Boone would express how “bummed” he is for the 36-year-old slugger, according to MLB.com.
“He’s been working his tail off every single day here, trying to get this thing right. I think you all know how bad he wants to be on that field, contributing to a championship. Obviously, that’s disappointing. Hopefully, we’ll just continue to work to get him right and healthy,” Boone said.
Boone isn’t putting a set feeling out there about whether Stanton will return to action this season.
“We’re not ruling anything out,” Boone said. “He’ll obviously continue to work to try to get it right and hopefully be available. Obviously we’re at a point in the calendar where it gets challenging. But you also never know.”
Yankees’ Aaron Boone continues on Giancarlo Stanton’s injury issues
So far this season with the Yankees, Stanton has recorded a .256 batting average to go along with three home runs and 14 RBIs in 24 games and 90 at-bats. Having already missed action since April 24, it marks another instance of Stanton being plagued by injury issues.
“He’s in the trenches with the guys as much as he can be,” Boone said. “I admire him so much – who he is, the way he goes about things. The same rings true for everyone in that room. They look up to him; they respect him. When he speaks, you listen.”
It remains to be seen whether Stanton returns to New York or not this season, as the team has a 73-55 record, putting them second in the AL East.
