Skip Bayless makes feelings extremely clear on Shedeur Sanders-Deshaun Watson Browns QB competition

With the Cleveland Browns’ starting quarterback battle ongoing between Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders, there has been a myriad of opinions within the football world on who should win the job. As Sanders had a hot start for the Browns against the Buffalo Bills in the preseason matchup on Saturday, sports analyst Skip Bayless made a strong claim about who should be the starting quarterback.

While many believe that Watson should start under center for Week 1 on Sept. 13 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Bayless has a different perspective. Posting on social media during Cleveland’s preseason game against the Bills, Bayless wrote in all caps that Sanders will win more games for the Browns compared to Watson.

“THE CLEVELAND BROWNS WILL WIN MORE GAMES WITH SHEDEUR SANDERS AT QB THAN WITH DESHAUN WATSON,” Bayless wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

The starting quarterback battle for the Browns is ongoing

Bayless is leaning towards the 24-year-old as being the better option for Cleveland this season over Watson, as the 30-year-old hasn’t played since the 2024 season due to significant Achilles injuries. As for Sanders, he would have an up-and-down year in his rookie season, throwing for 1,400 yards to go along with seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions in eight games.

In the matchup against the Bills in the preseason, Sanders led the team to a touchdown on the first drive of the game for the Browns, and he played the entire first half. Sanders recorded 74 yards by completing nine of 11 pass attempts with the touchdown throw on the first drive.

Watson would start the second half, though no points have been scored well into the fourth quarter. At any rate, it remains to be seen when Cleveland head coach Todd Monken decides who the starting quarterback will be ahead of Week 1 on Sept. 13 against the Jaguars in the regular season opener.
