Why Fever star Caitlin Clark is proud for battling through adversity vs. Mystics

Caitlin Clark emphasized the importance of resiliency following her performance in the Indiana Fever’s overtime loss to the Washington Mystics on Friday night.

Clark is going through the third season of her WNBA career with the Fever. She hopes to make significant progress this time around after going through an injury-riddled campaign last year.

Clark was going through a rough showing in Indiana’s matchup against Washington. Despite this, she finally caught fire in the fourth quarter and overtime as the star guard reflected on her efforts after the game.

“That’s like the hardest thing as a basketball player, is when you’re not making shots, to really stay in it. So, I was certainly proud of myself. Really, really battled,” Clark said, per reporter James Boyd.

How Caitlin Clark, Fever played against Mystics

Caitlin Clark will hope to showcase elite form with her efforts late in the game. However, the Fever sustained a 104-102 loss to the Mystics that will have them needing to be more effective on the defensive side of the ball.

Shot accuracy, rebounding and inside scoring made the difference in this matchup. The Mystics prevailed in all three categories by making 56% of their total shots, securing 44 rebounds and scoring 58 points inside the paint. It wasn’t the same for the Fever as they only made 39% of their shot attempts, grabbed 29 rebounds and produced 28 points inside the paint.

Three players scored in double-digits for Indiana in the loss, including Clark. She finished with a stat line of 32 points, eight assists, four rebounds, two steals, and one block. She shot 10-of-28 from the field, including 7-of-17 from beyond the arc, and 5-of-5 from the free-throw line. Kelsey Mitchell came next with 24 points, Monique Billings had 10 points and nine rebounds, while Aliyah Boston and Lexie Hull provided nine points each.

The Fever will look to bounce back in their fourth matchup of the season, remaining at home. They host the Seattle Storm as the game takes place on May 17 at 6 p.m. ET.
