Why Drew McIntyre’s 4-month WWE absence will continue

Over the years, a number of WWE Superstars have transitioned into successful Hollywood careers. With Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, John Cena, and Dave Bautista being some of the biggest names in the industry, former WWE World Champion Drew McIntyre could be doing something similar.

In the last few months, McIntyre has been a part of several Hollywood projects, including a movie with Russell Crowe. McIntyre was last seen losing to Jacob Fatu at WWE WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and has not been on television since then.

Now, according to the latest report by PWInsider, McIntyre’s absence is set to continue. As per the report, McIntyre is back in the United States but hasn’t been in talks with WWE about his return or storyline involvement. Although he has been involved in other projects with WWE, including a lead acting role.

As per the report, it was revealed in July that the former champion Drew McIntyre would participate in WWE’s live-action microdrama series with ReelShort, alongside Joe Hendry and Jacob Fatu. While there has been no update regarding his return timeline, as of this writing, McIntyre is still listed as an active member of WWE’s SmackDown roster.

Previously, reports emerged about McIntyre potentially returning at WWE SummerSlam 2026. However, the reports were later dismissed by PWInsider, who claimed that the rumors about his SummerSlam 2026 return were inaccurate due to there being “nothing on the table” for “The Scottish Warrior” creatively in WWE. His Hollywood commitments were suggested as the reason. McIntyre is currently working on two upcoming projects, The Last Druid and Highlander.
