Harvey Elliott given perfect Premier League club to join before Deadline Day

Harvey Elliott has been told he cannot afford a repeat of his 2025/26 campaign this season.

The Liverpool midfielder endured a torrid loan spell at Aston Villa, who were unwilling to make his move permanent.

Villa’s deal to sign Elliott included an obligation to buy for £35million if he made 10 Premier League appearances.

With his loan club deciding against meeting the clause, the 23-year-old was limited to just four league appearances for the club.

Having returned to Anfield this summer, Elliott featured heavily in pre-season under new manager Andoni Iraola.

However, he was left out of the matchday squad for Sunday’s draw at Newcastle United.

Elliott’s next club?

Jeff Stelling and Ally McCoist have now tipped the former England Under-21 international for a move to St. James’ Park.

The pair discussed Elliott’s future on Tuesday’s talkSPORT Breakfast show.

Referencing his snub from the squad, Stelling explained: “He must have been devastated at the weekend.

“His contract is up next summer, so this is not going to cost the king’s ransom. What are we talking, £15-20million? Something like that.

“I was going to look at the newly-promoted sides like Coventry, but would he be out of place at Newcastle, somewhere like that?”

McCoist agreed, replying: “No, I don’t think he would.”

The ex-Scotland striker added: “He wouldn’t look out of place in that Newcastle side and Newcastle are looking for players who are (similar to) the players they’ve lost. Obviously, Anthony Gordon would spring to mind.

“The most important thing, and it’s massively important for Harvey Elliott this season, last season was a write-off, he can’t afford another one like that.”

Iraola’s stance on Elliott

Iraola had previously revealed Elliott would have a chance to earn a place in the squad during the summer.

The new Reds boss had been asked about his future during his introductory press conference last month.

Speaking to reporters, Iraola explained: “I’ve seen him with this eagerness to show himself.

“He will have a chance during the pre-season. He came one week earlier and I hope we can see him in a good place.

“Last season had to have been very difficult for him as it was a strange situation that meant they [Aston Villa] couldn’t let him play.”

Elliott was part of Liverpool’s pre-season tour of the USA, featuring in matches against Sunderland, Wrexham and Leeds United.

The playmaker even provided an assist in a 4-2 win over the Black Cats.

He later appeared in further friendlies against both Monaco and Como ahead of the new season.
