Who are the nuns that blessed Luke Kornet before Spurs’ Game 4 win?
Coming into the Western Conference Finals, many assumed the San Antonio Spurs would need some divine intervention in order to best the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Thunder are the reigning champions and have yet to lose through two postseason series, whereas the Spurs were a young team still figuring out the ropes. The Spurs have the series tied up 2-2, though, and they very well may have God on their side. In Game 4, a group of nuns went viral for sitting courtside.
Who are the Spurs’ nuns?

Ahead of Game 4, a group of nuns was shown on the Frost Bank Center jumbotron sitting courtside and blessing backup center Luke Kornet. The moment led to a viral clip on social media and a thunderous applause from San Antonio’s home fan base. The Spurs then got off to arguably their best win of the season, as they beat the Thunder by a score of 103-82.

The nuns are a part of the San Antonio chapter of the Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco. They also happen to be diehard Spurs fans. Dressed in typical religious habit garments, enhanced by Spurs jerseys, the nuns used to frequent Spurs games, but they’ve been absent in recent years. In fact, Game 4 was the nuns’ first appearance of the season. It came at a great time, and San Antonio is embarking on their best run since the Tim Duncan era.
Kornet is all for the nuns presence. A devout Catholic who is public about his faith, Kornet has become a favorite of the sisters. He also plays a key role for the Spurs as Victor Wembanyama’s backup. The Spurs are off to Oklahoma City for Game 5, and Kornet wants the nuns to be there in person.
“1-0, pretty good results,” Kornet said about the Spurs’ record with the nuns sitting courtside. “That’s not what it’s about, but we’ll take it. We’re going to fly them to OKC. I don’t know, we’ve got to get ’em on the plane.”
Of course, having a hungry team loaded with talent has helped the Spurs defy the odds thus far. Wembanyama is quickly becoming the face of the NBA, Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper are youngsters ready to make a name for themselves, and De’Aaron Fox is a blur on the court. Plus, the team has role players like Harrison Barnes, Julian Champagnie, Keldon Johnson, and Devin Vassell. The team and their fanbase won’t complain about the added luck that seemed to come from the nuns showing up and cheering for their favorite team, though.
