White Sox’s Munetaka Murakami has MLB HR history on line Wednesday

The Chicago White Sox have an absolute star in infielder Munetaka Murakami. Murakami has hit home runs in four consecutive games. He could match Major League Baseball history if he is able to extend that streak to five games on Wednesday.

“5-game HR streak would tie the longest by an MLB rookie, done 12 (times) including once by a White Sox rookie — 1983 Ron Kittle,” MLB.com reporter Sarah Langs posted to X, formerly Twitter.

Langs is getting that stat from Elias Sports Bureau. The Japanese slugger Murakami could also etch his name into White Sox record books if he blasts another moonshot on Wednesday.

“Would also tie the White Sox franchise record for longest such streak, done 7 (times) by 6 players,” Langs added.

The White Sox are playing the Arizona Diamondbacks Wednesday. Chicago defeated Arizona Tuesday by a 11-5 score.

Murakami is already making a name for himself this season. He signed a free agent deal before the 2026 campaign, and White Sox fans are loving his production.

“Munetaka Murakami’s nine home runs are the most of any Japanese-born player in his first 23 MLB games,” Langs added in another social media post. “He has three more than any other Japanese-born player in first 23 MLB games, ahead of Shohei Ohtani, who had six in his first 23 games as a hitter.”

Chicago’s newest slugger is also crushing those baseballs.

“There have been 17 home runs this season at 113+ mph,” Langs added, “Munetaka Murakami is the only player with 3 of them.”

Again, the White Sox slugger is in elite company due to that fact.

“That’s tied for the most within a player’s first 9 career home runs since Statcast began tracking (2015), with: Elly De La Cruz, Franchy Cordero,” Langs posted.

On the season, Murakami is hitting at a .234 batting average. He has nine home runs and 17 RBIs. The White Sox are 9-14 on the season.
