Former TCU football OL Coltin Deery enters transfer portal after participating in Giants minicamp

As the TCU football season started with a loss to Bill Belichick and the North Carolina Tar Heels last Saturday, 15-10, a former player for the program, who worked out with an NFL team, is entering the transfer portal. With the news coming after TCU football’s brutal loss to North Carolina, it also adds to the ongoing situation in college football of players getting another year of eligibility, even with some being on NFL rosters.

According to Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer, former center Coltin Deery is entering the transfer portal, despite his intentions to be in the NFL, as he was even in the New York Giants’ rookie minicamp.

“Former TCU standout center Coltin Deery has entered the transfer portal, [Chris Hummer] and I have learned,” Zenitz wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “Was a three-year starter at TCU. Participated in an NFL rookie minicamp with the New York Giants.”

Deery is one of the many players who have sued the NCAA regarding eligibility issues, as the news surrounding him was reported by Alex Wilson at WFAA on Wednesday.

“An offensive lineman for the TCU Horned Frogs is suing the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in an attempt to remain eligible for a fifth season,” Wilson wrote.

“In the lawsuit filed in Tarrant County, Coltin Deery claims the NCAA’s latest eligibility rules ‘unfairly and unjustifiably’ excludes his graduating class from playing in the same amount of seasons as some of their teammates,” Wilson continued. “Deery graduated high school in 2022 and has played guard and center since 2023.”

At any rate, it remains to be seen where the former Horned Frogs offensive lineman heads to in an effort to continue his collegiate career.
