Cubs’ Pete Crow-Armstrong adds another circus catch in MVP case

Pete Crow-Armstrong turned a routine single into a little league home run versus the Milwaukee Brewers in May and then lost a ball in the lights against the Athletics a couple weeks later. These low lights felt so out of place for a Gold Glove center fielder, but they have since been buried by a collection of spectacular plays. He just added one to the highlight reel during Friday’s showdown with the Miami Marlins.

Crow-Armstrong launched himself off the ground and perfectly positioned his body to make an outstanding catch at the wall in Wrigley Field. He denied Heriberto Hernandez an extra-base hit, helping out Shota Imanaga and keeping the Cubs on top 4-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning. The ability to belt a 413-foot home run one night and execute elite defense the next is exactly why this man is in line to dethrone Shohei Ohtani as MVP.

A genuinely special season is required to accomplish such a feat, and stunningly, Crow-Armstrong is starting to make it look easy.
