Rams legend Kurt Warner gives props to ‘multitude of riches’ on Super Bowl XXXVI team
The Rams moved from St. Louis to Los Angeles in 2016, 17 years after Kurt Warner completed his improbable transformation from grocery bagger to Super Bowl-winning quarterback. The 1999 Rams were nicknamed “The Greatest Show on Turf” for their high-octane offense, something Los Angeles is hoping to duplicate under 2026 starting quarterback Matthew Stafford.
On Friday, Warner was given a chance to speak about his Super Bowl XXXVI-winning Rams on ESPN’s NFL Live, reminding fans of one of the greatest offensive teams in league history. He recalled his teammates’ amazing physical gifts along with their elite, hidden intangibles: unselfishness and preparation.
“They were pros every single time they showed up,” Warner said about former teammates Isaac Bruce, Marshall Faulk, Az-Zahir Hakim, Ricky Proehl and Torry Holt, whom he said should be a future Hall of Famer.
During the 2001 season, Warner entered the Rams’ huddle with supreme confidence on most plays, knowing the talent and football intellect that surrounded him on his team’s offense.
“For a quarterback it was just a multitude of riches from that perspective but I just knew it didn’t matter, whatever the defense did, I knew I had a great player that could go and make a huge play for our football team, probably take it to the endzone every single snap, and so it was so much fun to kinda orchestrate that group with Mike Martz,” Warner added.
The Rams are hoping for another blast-from-the-past season in 2026 with Stafford at the controls of Nate Scheelhaase’s offense, starting next Thursday in Melbourne, Australia against the San Francisco 49ers. Former Super Bowl winner and superstar defensive tackle Aaron Donald is back on the team, regardless of his status for Thursday’s game, giving Rams fans feel-good vibes and hope that the defense can pick up the team’s star-studded offense.
The 2026 Rams have gone all-in on Stafford ahead of the season in hopes of winning their third Super Bowl. With Kyren Williams, Puka Nacua, Davante Adams, and other talented players surrounding him, expectations are running high leading up to what fans hope will be another unforgettable season.
