White Sox’s Colson Montgomery follows Miguel Vargas into 30 home run club

Colson Montgomery got to enjoy pulling off career milestones with Miguel Vargas during the Chicago White Sox’s series opener against the Minnesota Twins on Friday night.

Montgomery is going through the second season of his career in the majors. He has shined as one of the top rising stars in the league, helping Chicago be in the mix for playoff contention.

Going into the game against Minnesota, Montgomery had 29 home runs to his name this season. It was also the same number of homers that Vargas before the series opener commenced.

Vargas achieved the milestone of 30 home runs out the gate. He blasted a solo shot to right-center field in the first inning of the game. It took until the fourth inning for Montgomery to join him, getting a two-run homer to right-center field.

How Colson Montgomery, White Sox played against Twins

Colson Montgomery and Miguel Vargas got to enjoy great nights at the plate, leading the White Sox past the Twins by a 4-1 score to begin the series.

Chicago did an excellent job shutting down Minnesota’s attack. They refused to give up any big play to the visitors, only conceding once in the ninth inning.

Erick Fedde started on the mound as he lasted five innings and earned the win. He struck out two batters while conceding just three hits throughout his time as the team’s starter.

Chicago improved to a 74-67 record on the season, controlling the top spot in the AL Central Division standings. They are above the Cleveland Guardians and the Twins at the moment.

The White Sox will look forward to Game 2 of their series against the Twins. That contest will take place on Sept. 5 at 7:10 p.m. ET.
