What Troy Terry is most proud of Ducks for amid impressive playoff run
All hockey fans circled the Anaheim Ducks as a team to watch in the Stanley Cup Playoffs thanks to their high-event style of play. Anaheim was one of the most exciting offensive teams in the league during the regular season, but its defense was a mess at times. For veteran forward Troy Terry, his young team’s ability to rein that in has been one of the most impressive things, according to NHL.com’s Derek Van Diest.
“That’s what I’ve been most proud of, I think, just how mature our team has been in some of our games,” Terry said. “The things that maybe plagued us during the regular season, I just think we’re ratcheting down on a lot of things and playing complete games.”
Everyone picked the Edmonton Oilers to roll over the Ducks in the first round with their offense, but thanks to a more concerted effort in their defensive end and the play of defensemen like Jackson LaCombe, the Oilers couldn’t break through as often as some expected.
“I think it’s kind of been just learning on the fly,” Terry added. “I think back to our first period of our first game in the playoffs and to see how far we’ve come of how we played Game 1 in Vegas. Through a mix of leaders, obviously an experienced coaching staff, just all of that, I think you’re just seeing a team learning on the fly to what works, what doesn’t work in (the) playoffs and how we need to play. That’s kind of the exciting thing. We have a lot of room to even keep getting better.”
The Ducks nearly shut out the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 2 of the second round to get a split on the road. If they can defend home ice, the inexperienced group will suddenly be facing a great opportunity.
