Saints legend Drew Brees reacts to ‘extra extra large’ Hall of Fame surprise

This weekend, former New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees will be formally enshrined in the NFL Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. Brees was selected for the honor earlier this year, commemorating his elite career with the Saints throughout the 2000s and 2010s.

Recently, Saints owner Gayle Benson surprised Brees with his jersey being placed on a statue of Tom Benson, the late former Saints owner, outside of the venue in Canton.

The jersey, as described in the video, is “extra, extra large” so as to be able to fit on the statue.

Brees had a distinguished playing career with the Saints, breaking several franchise and league records and also making it to 13 Pro Bowl games. Brees led the Saints to the Super Bowl in the 2009 season and led the league in passing yards on several different occasions.

Brees retired from the sport after the 2020 season but has still maintained an influential presence in the Saints organization over the last several years since departing, and now will be rightfully commemorated in the Hall of Fame.

Meanwhile, the Saints in the present day have fallen off significantly since the days when Brees was their starting quarterback, having been one of the worst teams in the league over the last few years, with many anticipating that the upcoming 2026 season will follow a similar script.

The Saints are hoping that young quarterback Tyler Shough will continue to expand on the intriguing flashes he showed down the stretch of last year.

In any case, the Saints are slated to kick off their new season on September 13 on the road against the Detroit Lions.
