Carson Beck’s wild NFL history on line in Cardinals Hall of Fame Game after CFP title game appearance

The start of the 2026-27 NFL season is here. Football will be played in Ohio on Thursday night as the Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers set the scene for what will be a remarkable season.

This Hall of Fame Game could be very unique if it begins a certain way. Earlier this week, the Cardinals announced that rookie Carson Beck, the current future of the team, will start this game against the Panthers. If the Red Birds get the ball first, history could be made.

I’ll explain.

Beck’s final throw of his college career was an interception in the National Championship game against Indiana, which the Hurricanes lost 27-21 despite having a chance to win. If you can recall, Beck and the Hurricanes gained 34 yards on four plays to get into Hoosiers territory, needing a touchdown to potentially win the game. Instead, Beck threw a terrible ball, and it was intercepted. No other pass was thrown in that title game.

Fast forward to Thursday night, Beck has the opportunity to throw the final pass of the CFB season, and the very first pass of the following NFL season. This has likely never happened before; at least there is no record of it.

Thanks to a fun Reddit thread, we are aware of two notable moments similar to this in the past. Current Tennessee Volunteers head coach and national champion Josh Heupel and former National Champion Matt Mauck both appeared in the Hall of Fame Game after leading their teams to glory at the NCAA level. However, neither Heupel nor Mauck started their respective Hall of Fame Games.

Keep an eye out for kickoff to see if the Cardinals will be receiving the ball. If so, you will witness something that has likely never been seen.
