Bill Simmons still doing Jaylen Brown trade cope with Jayson Tatum-Paul George take

Where were you when the Boston Celtics traded Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers? Whatever your answer may be, for sure, you were in a better situation than The Ringer’s Bill Simmons.

To the uninitiated, Simmons was in the middle of a colonoscopy when it went down. Clearly, it was a historic moment that rivals the Renaissance Age or the Creation of Man.

Simmons was dumbfounded by the Celtics’ decision to take Paul George, two first-round picks, and two second-round picks from the 76ers in exchange for Brown. He felt that his beloved team sold low on Brown, who was coming off an MVP-type campaign.

But now that he has gone through the five stages of grief, it seems Simmons has accepted the fact that he will now have to cheer for George. He even argued that the veteran forward could be a better partner for Jayson Tatum than Brown.

“I think one of the reasons they made the trade is they felt like he (George) might be a better fit at this point in Tatum’s career. I think I agree with that,” said Simmons on SiriusXM.

“I think they were feeling like it was a better basketball fit, and I think they wanted some of their other younger wings to play more.”

There have been rumors that while they were effective together on the court, Tatum and Brown did not have a friendly relationship.

The 36-year-old George was limited to only 37 games last season due to various injuries and a long suspension for violating the league’s anti-drug program. He averaged 17.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.7 steals.

Some have noted that George and Tatum have redundant roles, and playing them together could get clunky. Coach Joe Mazzulla, however, has consistently shown that he can work with any lineup. He will likely find a suitable role for George, who is still looking for his first ring.
