Bears’ Ben Johnson drops a bar on keeping Caleb Williams’ ego in check
Chicago Bears’ training camp is in full swing, and Caleb Williams has been running the offense with efficiency and giving fans hope of another division title. Coach Ben Johnson was asked about how they keep their quarterback’s ego in check, and he gave a funny response on how they do it, according to the Bears’ beat writer Patrick Finley.
“How does Ben Johnson keep Caleb Williams humble? ‘We tell him the truth in the meetings,’ he said with a smile,” Finley wrote on X.
Johnson has been working with Williams extensively, attempting to get even more out of his quarterback. Last season, he had a 58.1% completion percentage, while passing for 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions with a 90.1 passer rating. Williams also rushed 77 times for 388 yards and three touchdowns.
Williams could have more mobility this season, as he attempts to help the Bears repeat as NFC North champions after they won it by going 11-6. In addition to their quarterback, the Bears will also bring back talented receivers Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III, as well as tight end Colston Loveland. Running back D’Andre Swift will also be back in the fold.
Johnson will look to Williams to help guide the offense and give Chicago the best chance to succeed. With a competitive NFC North that features the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, and Detroit Lions, each game will be critical, as the Bears attempt to carry on the success they built last season. With Johnson guiding Williams, both will find a way to avoid egos getting in the way.
