UFC’s Conor McGregor breaks silence after successful 5th surgery
After a five-year-long absence, UFC veteran Conor McGregor made his long-awaited MMA return. At UFC 329 against Max Holloway on Jul. 11, 2026, McGregor made his comeback. However, the scheduled fight finished earlier than expected as McGregor suffered a serious ACL and meniscus injury.
On Monday, Aug. 3, 2026, McGregor announced undergoing surgery to treat the injuries suffered in his first-round loss. “Well folks, here we go again! Surgery number 5 of my career coming up! All things considered that is an ok number! Let’s do it, WE GOT THIS!” McGregor wrote.
Now, just days later, shared an update on his Instagram stories and revealed that he underwent a successful surgery. “Surgery went excellent. I am confident.” Before coming back to fight Holloway, McGregor lost his last two MMA bouts, both to Dustin Poirier. His last win dates back to Jan. 2020 at UFC 246 against Donald Cerrone.
Former UFC fighter Darren Till wants Conor McGregor to retire
Recently speaking to The Independent, former UFC Fighter Darren Till opened up and addressed Conor McGregor’s current injuries. Talking about the physical setbacks, Till claimed that it was time for McGregor to retire now.
“I like it but the thing with Conor [is] he’s made a lot of money. He probably doesn’t still need it, but he probably wants it because it’s hard for him to leave the sport behind and he’s a fighter’s fighter. I do get it but sometimes it’s probably best to just let it go.
“If Conor’s getting injured like that in the first few seconds of a fight, he should probably be listening to his body. But again, the one thing with Conor, he’s got more than enough money to get seen to and to get all the best procedures, so who knows, he might come back a better man, he might not. We’ll see,” Till added.
