Bears’ Ben Johnson gives cryptic injury updates on Coby Bryant, Kyler Gordon
As the Chicago Bears opened training camp, they were dealt a pair of brutal injury blows to their secondary. Head coach Ben Johnson is keeping any further updates close to the vest.
Corner Kyler Gordon is currently on the Physically Unable to Perform list due to a calf injury. His status has remain unchanged since the start of camp, via Courtney Cronin of ESPN.
“Still continuing to rehab,” Johnson said of Gordon.
Safety Coby Bryant suffered a devastating knee injury that is now poised to keep him off the gridiron for the next eight-10 weeks. Still, Johnson says the Bears are currently, “in the information collection stage,” when determining exactly how long Bryant will be out, via Cronin.
Gordon has been no stranger to injuries, as he was limited to just three games during the 2025 season. When healthy, he has played like one of the better slot cornerbacks in the league. However, Chicago hasn’t seen that version of Gordon for quite some time now.
Bryant was signed to a $40 million contract over the offseason as the Bears completely rebuilt their safety room. While first-round pick Dillon Thieneman comes with plenty of potential, Bryant is expected to be the leader of the unit. Unfortunately for Chicago, his debut with the franchise will now be delayed.
Still early in training camp, the Bears have time to make outside additions if they believe Gordon’s injury will linger and Bryant will miss more time than expected. But first, Johnson wants to see where both players currently stand.
