Cubs star Pete Crow-Armstrong’s MVP push gets Caleb Williams’ stamp of approval

The Chicago Cubs just swept the Los Angeles Dodgers. In the process, Pete Crow-Armstrong made his case for the NL MVP Award. Shohei Ohtani and Crow-Armstrong both hit leadoff home runs, highlighting the debate.

Now, another Chicago star is endorsing PCA for the MVP Award, as Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams took to Instagram to show his support.

Williams shared the Cubs story of PCA hitting a home run with the caption “#MVPCA.” Pete Crow-Armstrong had an amazing series against the Dodgers. He went 6-for-13 with a double, two home runs and five RBIs. On the year, he is hitting .288 with 26 home runs and 69 RBIs. He also has a .938 OPS, which is tied for second in the majors.

It is a tight debate between Ohtani and PCA. Ohtani is hitting .297 while PCA is hitting .288. They have the same number of home runs with 26, while Ohtani has one more RBI. Crow-Armstrong currently has a higher batting WAR, at 7.3. Still, Ohtani has one major difference: he pitches. He is 8-2 on the mound this year with a 1.79 RA and a 0.95 WHIP. He has not pitched since July 3, though. Ohtani may not pitch again this year either, especially with Skubal now with the team.

There also could be some voter fatigue with Ohtani that could help PCA. Ohtani has won the MVP award two straight years in the NL, and three overall, winning in the AL in 2023. Overall, he already has four MVP awards, and the voters could look to vote for someone new.

The Cubs are 66-49 on the year, placing them in second in the NL Central. The Cubs play a make-up game against the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday.
